Driving Repo

Repo demand stems from one of two trading activities: firm financing and match book trading.

Through firm financing it is possible to manage the dealer's trading positions by borrowing securities when the bank is short or financing securities when the bank is long. Some of these activities that take the bank long or short, and thus drive the need for repo, are explained in this section.
